Brain-based leadership coach

Dedicated to helping leaders understand the organ that drives behavior and performance.

Lisa Marini – My Story

I know what it feels like to be capable, driven, and successful on the outside, yet struggling to show up as the leader you want to be.

I spent seventeen years in the construction industry as a Superintendent for a multifamily general contractor. It was demanding, high-pressure work, and as a woman in that environment, the stress was constant. Over time, that pressure took a serious toll. I experienced memory loss, chronic migraines, hormonal imbalances, and hair loss. But what concerned me most was how I was showing up as a leader.

I was more reactive than I wanted to be. I was impatient, easily frustrated, and quicker to anger than felt true to who I was. I found myself snapping, feeling overwhelmed, and responding in ways I later regretted. I knew I was capable of being a better leader, but under pressure, that version of me often disappeared.

I tried to push through it, assuming I just needed to be tougher or more disciplined. But the harder I pushed, the worse things felt. I knew something wasn’t working, and I was desperate for a solution, but it felt out of reach.

Then something happened that changed everything.

While attending a conference, I listened to a neuroscientist explain how the brain responds to prolonged stress and perceived threat. For the first time, I understood that my brain wasn’t failing me, it was protecting me. The reactivity, frustration, and emotional volatility weren’t character flaws. They were survival responses driven by a nervous system under constant pressure.

That realization stopped me in my tracks.

It had never occurred to me that my brain could hijack my behavior, narrow my thinking, or drive emotional reactions as a form of protection. Once I understood what was happening neurologically, everything shifted. Not instantly, but fundamentally.

I became deeply committed to learning how the brain works and how it influences behavior, decision-making, and leadership. That learning not only helped me heal physically and emotionally, it allowed me to show up with greater clarity, consistency, and intention as a leader.

Today, my passion is helping leaders understand what’s happening beneath their behavior so they can lead the way they intend to, even under pressure. I help people manage stress, regulate emotions, set goals in ways the brain can support, and respond intentionally rather than reactively.

What continues to drive me is the impact. I see it in leaders who regain control in difficult moments, in teams that communicate more effectively, and in people who finally understand that they aren’t broken. They simply haven’t been taught how the brain works.

This work matters to me because I’ve lived the cost of not understanding the brain, and I’ve experienced the transformation that comes with learning it. Helping others become the leader they want to be is why I continue to do this work.

“Lisa is fun and engaging! She breaks down aspects of our brain that we all battle in a way that is easy to understand and she provides tools that are easy to implement. Her brain-based leadership program benefits every participant’s personal and professional life.”

Why Work With Me?

  • Real-world leadership experience
Seventeen years leading in high-pressure environments, not just studying leadership from the outside.

  • Grounded in neuroscience, not theory
I teach leaders how the brain actually drives behavior, decision-making, and communication.

  • Practical tools leaders can use immediately
This work goes beyond awareness. Leaders leave with tools to regulate stress, improve clarity, and respond intentionally under pressure.

  • A whole-human approach to performance
Leadership is influenced by stress, sleep, nutrition, workload, and environment. I help leaders understand and manage the full system driving performance.

  • Focused on consistency, not perfection
The goal isn’t to lead well only when things are calm, but to lead consistently when conditions are challenging.

  • Proven impact
I’ve seen leaders change how they show up, teams improve trust and communication, and organizations benefit from more grounded, effective leadership.
